  Considered by many good men to be the finest daysailer of all time, the wooden Herreshoff 12 1/2 keel-boat was last built in the late 1940's.   Sailing at its best is an interplay of aesthetic and physical elements: a harmony of structure and curves fusing buoyant space with motion. No design has better managed this harmony than these safe and shippy little boats .

  The special elegance imparted by the hollow waterline that cuts through a brisk chop when sailing to windward, stability that engenders immediate confidence in anxious beginners, cockpit coamings that keep out spray and make comfortable seat backs for six adults, the delicately tapered tiller hinting at the light helm when underway, the sense of tradition provided by the gaff rig (Marconi interchangeable), the shoal draft centerboard that also allows for easy trailering, and the richness of fine woods hand-worked by the best craftsmen assure us that these Havens will be among the most cherished family heirlooms.

  Our Havens are built by Eric Dow & Co. of Brooklin, Maine --- across the street from Joel White's offices. Eric & Co. (for whom we are the exclusive sales agent) build Havens in both the traditional plank-on-frame method pioneered by the Herreshoff Mfg. Co. and in a five-layer epoxy-encapsulated lamination process known as "cold molding". (The cold molded technique, having no caulked seams, is always watertight and ready for immediate use even after prolonged periods of time on a trailer or a boat lift).

  Havens are available on custom order with an extensive range of features including your choice of gaff or Marconi sails. All boats are accompanied by an Eric Dow half-model and a signed rendering by Sam Manning (who illustrated this Literature).

  As the originals were arguably the most important one-design of the 20th Century, the Haven could surely be the one-design of the Twenty-first.
